Thanks to funding from the San Francisco Arts Commission, we were able to take our creative arts teaching to another level: Designing skateboards. Taking our cue from Apache Skateboards and Rezolution Skateboards, both Native-owned skateboard companies, we have been showing our youth how to become entrepreneurial designers by using Photoshop to select and alter images that they will then screen-print onto skateboards they have either hand-painted or spray-painted. The entire process is taking a few months because the youth are learning every step involved in the design process.
