Bio-Bus Activism

In 2010, SNAG launched the SNAG Bio-Bus Project!

About the bus: SNAG Bio-Bus is a 20-passenger diesel bus running on bio-diesel. The Bio-bus has a mobile solar system and battery bank, perfect for powering events. Future plans for the bus include a mobile media & seed library and organic juice bar. The Bus currently serves SNAG urban Native youth by providing eco-sustainable transportation to pow-wows, traditional ceremonies and educational forums.

Booking transport: The Bio-Bus is currently available for rent to community organizations, schools, groups and/or individuals who need transport and/or tours! Please contact snagmagazine @ yahoo.com to book your ride today. All proceeds go to reach our future bio-bus goals. Click here for more rental information.

About Bio-Diesel and Our Mobile Solar System: Bio-Diesel is an alternative fuel made from vegetable oil. Any diesel engine can run on bio-diesel without any mechanical alteration to the engine, it can be used alone or blended at any ratio with petro-diesel. The bio-fuel we use is made from 100% recycled waste vegetable oils, sourced locally. Our solar systems battery bank (10 golf cart batteries) has the capacity to hold 5,568 watt hours per cycle, and our two 240 watt panels could generate as much as 2880 watt hours in 6 hours on a sunny day.

Mission: Our mission for the SNAG Bio-Bus project is to teach our Youth how to reduce their fossil fuel use. To educate them about the negative impacts and cycles of fossil fuel production and pollution, and to promote environmental sustainability, and practice living in balance with our natural world.

By providing green transportation to urban Youth, we encourage them to understand fuel alternatives, their impact on nature and the environment, and inspire sustainable teachings in line with Native traditions. We also aim to provide mobile media workshops to Youth in rural and reservation communities. The Bio-Bus will be fully equipped to support and provide training for Youth in areas that lack resources and access to media making tools.

The final component of SNAG Bio-Bus is to provide Native youth with job experience and management skills through the mobile juice bar. The juice bar will also be a learning opportunity, teaching healthy living, eating, and inciting entrepreneurship.
